Residents of Abkhazia treat victory over Georgia as main achievement in 25 years
The main achievements of Abkhazia over the 25 years of its history were the victory in the war against Georgia under President Vladislav Ardzinba and Russia's recognition of the republic's independence under President Sergey Bagapsh. This was stated by the residents of Abkhazia, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot". After a quarter of a century, Abkhazia has acquired "the basic principles of the state," said Inal Khashig, a journalist.
Exactly 25 years ago, on August 14, 1992, the Georgia’s State Council abolished the resolution on Abkhazia’s independence and deployed troops in the republic.
According to the Abkhaz journalist Anton Krivenyuk, for 25 years "certain successes in economy were achieved under the second president, Sergey Bagapsh."
"Under him, normal roads appeared; they partially rebuilt the central Sukhumi; and new buildings appeared," he explained.
The main achievements of Abkhazia were "democracy and freedom of speech," as evidenced by the absence of political prisoners, said Inal Khashig, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Chegemskaya Pravda”.
Abkhazia had achievements "under each president," believes Daur Latariya, the head of the "Apshyatyp" Centre for Spiritual Revival, Traditions, Rituals, Religion and Folk Medicine.
The journalist Stella Adleiba noted in conversation that the main Abkhazia’s achievement is that "Russia has become its strategic partner." According to her story, "in some spheres, there are no achievements."
