Russian SC refuses to consider cassation appeal against verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev (+video)

The Supreme Court (SC) of Russia has refused to consider cassation appeals against the verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, accused of drug trafficking. Defenders intend to continue their struggle at the national level and at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) for recognition of Zhalaudi Geriev as not guilty.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Zhalaudi Geriev's defence filed two cassation appeals to the Russian SC with a request to eliminate violations committed by Chechen courts and to return the case to the first instance court for consideration.

On July 31, the Russian SC pronounced the decision on both cassation appeals. However, the appropriate information about the Court's decision has not appeared on the website of the Russian SC until today, reported advocate Nadezhda Ermolaeva.

"The judge refused to hand over the Zhalaudi Geriev's appeal for consideration at the cassation instance court. At present, we cannot comment on the Court's decision, since we have not yet received the motivated decision. Meanwhile, we do not agree with the refusal," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told today by advocate Nadezhda Ermolaeva.

"We continue to struggle at the national level, and we look forward to consideration of the Zhalaudi Geriev's appeal at the European Court of Human Rights," said Nadezhda Ermolaeva.

Let us remind you that on June 25, the defence filed a complaint in the Zhalaudi Geriev's case to the ECtHR.
