Sarmatians' treasures brought to museum from construction site of "Platov" Airport
More than 1500 discoveries from 32 burial complexes dating from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages were investigated at the site of the construction of the "Platov" Airport in the Rostov Region. The discoveries were brought to the Azov Museum-Reserve.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the "Platov" Airport is under construction near the Cossack village of Grushevskaya in the Aksai District, about 30 kilometres from Rostov-on-Don. Its opening is scheduled for December 2017. In 2015, archaeologists found a Sarmatian burial on the site of construction.
According to museum staff members, the collection includes jewellery, clothing, and household items of a Sarmatian queen of 1st and 2nd centuries AD. The museum noted that the number of discoveries includes rare and unique items.
The museum staff members have noted that one of the rarest items is a carnelian seal with an ancient Hebrew inscription from a necklace found in a female burial of a Sarmatian elderly woman from the 1st and 2nd centuries AD. Besides, archaeologists found a lot of household items, including of precious metals, the "Interfax" reports with reference to a source from the museum.
