Boris Nemtsov's daughter appeals against verdict in politician's murder case

In their cassation appeal, representatives of Zhanna Nemtsova have demanded to abolish the verdict against the defendants sentenced for the opposition politician Boris Nemtsov's murder and return of the case to the Prosecutor's Office. This was announced by advocate Olga Mikhailova.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 13, in the case of the politician Boris Nemtsov's murder, the court found five defendants guilty. Zaur Dadaev, whom investigators treated as the killer who directly committed the murder, was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment, and the other defendants were sentenced to 11-19 years of imprisonment. Relatives of the sentenced men called the verdict unjust and claimed that their clients' guilt was not proven.

"Being representatives of Zhanna Nemtsova, we have filed a cassation appeal against the verdict pronounced by the Moscow   District Military Court, in which we ask to cancel the verdict and return the case to the Prosecutor's Office," stated Olga Mikhailova.

According to the advocate, the defendants' actions should have been classified under another article of the Criminal Code of Russia. "We categorically disagree with the classification of the defendants' actions under Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder) and believe that their actions should be classified under Article 277 of the Criminal Code (encroachment on the life of a statesman or a public figure), given the fact that Boris Nemtsov was a deputy of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma and the co-chairman of the 'PARNAS' Party," emphasized the advocate as quoted by the "Interfax".

According to Olga Mikhailova, being representatives of Zhanna Nemtsova, she and her colleague Vadim Prokhorov repeatedly requested the reclassification of the charge, including at the Moscow   District Military Court.
