Azerbaijani Prosecutor's Office starts investigating shelling of Alkhanly village

On July 5, the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Russian Ambassador Igor Popov, French Ambassador Stefan Visconti, and US Ambassador Richard Hoagland made a statement in connection with the information received by them and related to "the resumption of violence late in the evening on July 4 in the village of Alkhanly of the Fizuli District, resulting in casualties, including among civilians."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on July 4, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) reported that as a result of shelling from the Armenian side, a woman and a two-year-old girl were killed and another woman got shrapnel wounds.

"The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group urgently call on the parties to the conflict to stop the hostilities. The violence can just generate further violence and nothing else. The only responsible and humane way to resolve this long-standing conflict is for the parties to return to the table of deliberate negotiations," notes the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in their statement.

The co-chairs have also expressed their condolences to family members of the victims.

In its turn, the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan has announced the launch of the investigation into the criminal case on the fact of shelling in the village of Alkhanly.
