"BBC": soldier from Rostov Region captured in Ukraine

Viktor Ageev, a Russian soldier, was captured in the Lugansk Region. According to his mother, he served in the town of Bataisk of the Rostov Region. This is reported by the "BBC" with reference to sources from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the commanders of the 93rd independent mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

After Crimea joined the Russian Federation, armed clashes began to take place in the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions of Ukraine between law enforcers and supporters of creation in those regions of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DNR and LNR, respectively). The Ukrainian authorities have not recognized the self-proclaimed republics and carry out a special operation against their supporters.

According to the Ukrainian MoD, on June 24, an armed clash occurred between fighters of the 93rd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and members of the reconnaissance group of the fourth mechanized brigade of the LNR's second army corps.

The "BBC" reports that a "Russian carrier officer," who led the reconnaissance group, was killed. Four fighters of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic were captured, including Viktor Ageev, who was then transferred to the Security Service of Ukraine (known as SBU).

According to the Viktor Ageev's mother, after the end of his service in Novocherkassk, her son stayed to serve under a contract in the town of Bataisk in the Rostov Region.
