Calgary sheriff to run for position of Tbilisi Mayor

Merab Tabidze, a sheriff of the Canadian city of Calgary, plans to take part in the election of Tbilisi Mayor to be held this October. He positions himself as an independent candidate.

Merab Tabidze, who has announced his desire to take part in the election of Tbilisi Mayor, notes that he will submit his documents as a candidate in case if he is granted Georgian citizenship. At present, he is a citizen of Canada.

"This was not an easy decision. However, we believe that it would be better to direct to the future and development of our beloved city the knowledge and experience that I acquired over 26 years as a Canadian citizen," said Merab Tabidze.

According to him, it is an independent candidate who should be elected the Mayor of the Georgian capital, since a member of any political party elected the Tbilisi Mayor will put the party's interests first. Merab Tubidze believes that he will be able to seriously compete with other candidates, the "Echo of the Caucasus" reports.

The names of the main candidates for the position of Tbilisi Mayor are already known. They are Kakha Kaladze from the "Georgian Dream" Party, Elena Khoshtariya from the "European Georgia" Party, and Zaal Udumashvili from the "United National Movement" (UNM) Party, the "Georgia Online" reports.
