40 people come to picket "Shame to Rosgvardia!" in Rostov-on-Don (+video)

A picket in defence of those detained during anti-corruption actions on March 26 and June 12 in Russia was held today in Rostov-on-Don. The today's event in the Builders' Park was organized by activists of "The Open Russia" movement jointly with Alexei Navalny's election office in Rostov-on-Don.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 27 and on June 12, many cities of Russia, including in the south of the country, hosted actions of opposition leader Alexei Navalny's supporters. The actions were accompanied by mass detentions.

According to organizers, the picket in Rostov-on-Don was about 40 persons strong; they came out with posters reading "Shame to Rosgvardia!", "Rosgvardia is at Putin's service!", "Freedom to the people!" and others.

The picketers also held photos, showing Rosgvardia (National Guard of the Russian Federation) servicemen detaining and beating up unarmed people with posters. Some posters referred to Article 31 of the Russian Constitution, reading, "Citizens of the Russian Federation have the right to assemble peacefully, without weapons, hold meetings, rallies and demonstrations, marches and pickets," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Apart from protesting against the actions of OMON (riot police) fighters, picketers in Rostov-on-Don demanded to release the politician Alexei Navalny, who is now serving his administrative arrest in one of Moscow special detention centres.
