Over 100 films are on programme of "Golden Apricot" Armenian Film Festival

The 14th International "Golden Apricot" Film Festival in Yerevan received about 1100 applications from 96 countries. This year, the organizers for the first time allowed spectators to take part in choosing films through an Internet-based polling.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the 13th "Golden Apricot", the Grand Prix was awarded to the film by Russian Director Evgeny Grigoriev "Opposite Left Bank", dedicated to Rostov-on-Don. Two films about the Armenian Genocide were also marked.

The 14th "Golden Apricot" Film Festival starts on July 9. Its programme includes many films recognized as the best world premieres of 2017. These are films awarded by juries of the Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam and Venice Film Festivals.

Armen Amiryan, the Armenian Minister of Culture, has noted that the festival films would be screened not only in Yerevan, but at seven other venues of the republic too.

"The festival promotes contacts of producers and filmmakers. This may have a serious impact on the Armenian reality," said the Minister.

"The jury of feature films is headed by Hugh Hudson, a British director and an Oscar Prize winner. The jury includes, in particular, Ildiko Enedi, a Hungarian director and the winner of the Berlin Film Festival, and Siro Gera, a Colombian director and a laureate of 37 film awards," said Mikael Stamboltsyan, a film critic and the programme director of the festival.
