MMA World Champion, who complained about torture in Chechnya, detained near Bryansk

On June 4, athlete Murad Amriev was detained in the Bryansk Region on his way to Moscow from abroad on the charge of using a fraudulent document. Human rights defenders express their concern that his transfer to Chechnya may threaten his life.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in September 2013, Murad Amriev reported that on August 25, 2013, three men forced him into a car and took him to a police station. According to Murad Amriev, they beat and tortured him during two days. They demanded to defame his older brother living abroad, and then they took him home and put forward a condition that his brother should return to Chechnya. Murad Amriev left the republic, since he feared for his life.

Murad Amriev, a World Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Federation champion, was detained at the Suzemka railway station in the Bryansk Region. Ta present, he await his transfer to Grozny under an escort of Chechen policemen, reports the website of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture.

According to the human rights defenders, in 2013, Murad Amriev was put on the federal wanted list, but in 2014, his name was excluded from the list because of a misprint in his passport, where the date of birth was incorrect.

The human rights defenders believe that the repeated initiation of the federal search for Murad Amriev is motivated by a personal revenge of Chechen law enforcers in connection with his firm position.
