Appeal on pardon for Said Amirov filed to presidential administration

Andrei Babushkin, a member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, has reported on filing an appeal to Sergey Kiriyenko, the first deputy chief of the presidential administration, with a request to consider pardoning of Said Amirov, the former Mayor of Makhachkala, who was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 27, 2015, the court sentenced Makhachkala Mayor Said Amirov to life imprisonment in the case on organization of murders, acts of banditry and terrorism.

In the evening of May 24, members of the HRC met Sergey Kiriyenko. At the meeting, they handed over the appeal to pardon Said Amirov. According to Mikhail Fedotov, the head of the HRC, at the meeting, "the HRC members expressed the idea of announcing an amnesty for the centennial of the revolution in Russia."

Andrei Babushkin has noted that the human rights defenders have handed over to the representative of the presidential administration a number of documents, including those related to the former Mayor of Makhachkala.

It should be noted that in his final speech, prior to the pronouncement of the verdict on life imprisonment by the court, Said Amirov pleaded not guilty and called the public prosecutors "executors of a political order."
