Burial of first centuries AD discovered in centre of Rostov-on-Don
In the centre of Rostov-on-Don, in Stanislavsky Street, archaeologists have discovered an ancient burial, presumably made about 2000 years ago.
At the place of the excavation, the researchers have initially found the remains, presumably belonging to a young woman, a member of the Meot tribe, who lived on the territory of the region several thousand years ago.
According to archaeologist Alexander Nechiporuk, the burial discovered at a depth of 1.5 meters was made in the 1st century AD. The researcher associates the discovery with the necropolis of the Rostov fort. In the middle of the 20th century and in 2005, excavations were already conducted at the place, the "Don-24" reports.
Later, two more skeletons were found at the same place. It should be noted that the burial was discovered at a relatively small depth of 70 centimetres. Next to the remains, the archaeologists found fragments of ceramic vessels. The remains are sent for examination, the "DonDay" reports.
In the 1st millennium BC, members of the Meot tribe inhabited the territory from the Azov Sea to the Black Sea. They are the ancestors of Adygs (Circassians).
