Experts predict no changes in Abkhaz Parliament after re-election
Abkhazia has stopped registering candidates for a seat in local parliament at a re-election in the 17th constituency, to be held on May 14 has. Two candidates have applied for the vacant seat; however, the voting outcome will not significantly affect the composition of the parliament, said the Abkhaz journalists, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 14 the re-election will take place in the Gudauta Constituency No. 17, where Leonid Lakerbaya, the ex-head of the government, had run.
"On May 4, the registration of candidates for the re-election in Constituency No. 17 was over. Two candidates – Leonid Lakerbaya and Leonid Chamagua – will compete for the seat in the parliament, "said a source from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Abkhazia.
Leonid Chamagua is one of the most efficient MPs of the previous convocation, said the journalist Anton Krivenyuk, adding that Lakerbaya is one of the leaders of the opposition.
Earlier, Inal Khashig, the editor of the "Jam News" portal, stated that it is likely that Valery Kvarchiya, elected as Speaker, will hold his office temporarily.
Izida Chaniya, the editor-in-chief of the "Nuzhnaya Gazeta" newspaper, believes that in case of any political destabilization, Kvarchiya will not take the side of the opposition.
