50 Yerevan residents attend march in support of women

On May 1, in the capital of Armenia, activists held the "anti-demonstration of May 1". Its central slogans included the protection of women's rights and the support of housewives.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that in Yerevan, about 50 people came to the "anti-demonstration of May 1".

The activists marched through the central streets of Yerevan and read out the texts in support of human rights. In their hands, they were carrying posters reading: "Free medical care, free education", "Women against patriarchy, capitalism, exploitation", "Capitalism, we should part with you, sorry", and "No violence in the street and at home".

A special emphasis was put on the problem of housewives, whom activists treat as "unpaid workers."

"Every day, for free, women do the work of a cook, a cleaning woman, a babysitter, a medical officer, and a secretary. They work 16 hours per day instead of 8, but they are still treated as unemployed. The right to paid work of women resulted in the fact that they work at home and at paid work, and often more than men," noted an activist.
