Volgograd: truckers hold toy trucks motor rally

A symbolic motor rally of toy trucks was held today after the May Day rally by the Volgograd truckers, protesting against the "Platon" system. They explained their idea by their inability to obtain an authorities' permit on holding a real motor rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Union of Carriers and Entrepreneurs of the Volgograd Region had applied for a 50-person-strong participation in the May Day March. However, the Trade Union Council of the region failed to sanction their participation in the demonstration. After that, truckers decided to participate in the May Day rally.

On March 27, truckers launched an All-Russian protest action against the "Platon" system, which was supported also by truckers of the Volgograd Region. Protesters reported threats addressed to them. On April 30, they left their protest camp.

Truckers brought toy trucks with them to the action, and placed stickers on them: "No to 'Platon' System!" After the rally, they ran their toy trucks by ropes from Lenin Square to the Alley of Heroes.

"They wouldn't sanction our motor rallies officially; therefore, we decided to hold a symbolic rally," Alla Beg, the coordinator of the action, has explained, adding that the rally was attended by 30 truckers.
