HRC "Memorial": in Dagestan, law enforcers collect data about people included in police prevention registration lists

In Dagestan, the law enforcement authorities require residents put on police prevention registration lists to bring copies of their personal documents and of the documents of their family members. This was reported by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial". The human rights defenders intend to appeal for explanations to the Dagestani Minister of Internal Affairs and the Ombudsman.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 23, in response to a request of a judge of the Dagestani Supreme Court, Abdurashid Magomedov, Dagestani Minister of Internal Affairs, reported that in the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) does not put people on police prevention registration lists under the "extremist" category. Magomed Magomedov explained that the orders regulating the inclusion in police prevention registration lists had been "destroyed in connection with the expiration of their period of limitations." His statement aroused distrust among the human rights defenders.

According to the HRC "Memorial", the human rights defenders receive information that law enforcers "during several days call and write through mobile phone messengers to the people put on police prevention registration lists."

The human rights defenders believe that "a law enforcer should report the reason and purpose of a contact."
