Ramazan Abdulatipov: monument to killed journalists to be built near Press House

In Makhachkala, a monument to killed journalists will be built near the renovated Press House. This was announced by Dagestani leader Ramazan Abdulatipov in Instagram.

On December 15, 2016, it became known that a layout of the monument to journalists killed in performance of their duty was ready. On March 20, Ali Kamalov, Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Dagestan, reported that a land plot where the monument was to be built was handed over by officials for parking of a multifunctional centre.

According to Ramazan Abdulatipov, since 1992, 19 journalists were killed in Dagestan. The Dagestani leader has noted that he knew many of them. He has also added that the House of Press will be renovated and will become a "real home" for journalists. Ramazan Abdulatipov called the monument a national one, since the funds for its construction were raised as donations. The Dagestani leader has also called on the people to take part in the raising of money.

According to Magdi Kamalov, the director of the publishing house "Svoboda Slova" (newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft)), in Dagestan, 20 journalists were killed during 20 years, but the verdict against criminals was pronounced in one case only.
