Refugees living in emergency housing in Baku receive promises to accelerate resettlement again

In Baku, forced migrants demand from the Azerbaijani authorities to solve their housing problems. The authorities admit that 340,000 settlers, who reside in the country, need improvement of their living conditions, and once again have promised to speed up the process.

The refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh, settled in one of the hostels of Boarding School No. 3 for deaf-mute children in Baku, complain about inconveniences and poor material situation. Each of the floors of the four-story hostel in Sharifli Street, Nasimi District of Baku, accommodates 17-18 families.

An elderly woman, who introduced herself as Zarifa, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the building is virtually unfit for habitation.

The wife of the forced migrant Tarlan Alyshov has also complained about the density and inconveniences. Her husband has noted that forced migrants had repeatedly appealed to the State Committee for Refugees and to the officials of the district administration asking to solve their problems, but their appeals have yielded no results.

He has added that refugees did not apply to the Azerbaijani Ombudsperson, since they consider it useless.

The press service of the above State Committee for Refugees has stated that the 2017 state budget has no funds for the resettlement of refugees from the hostel in Sharifli Street.

However, according to the Committee, step by step, all the forced migrants, accommodated in hostels, sanatoriums and kindergartens, "will be provided with temporary housing in new buildings."
