EU Council approves visa-free regime for Georgia
The decision of the Council of the European Union (EU) on the visa-free regime for Georgian citizens’ short trips to the EU is final and should be brought to the knowledge of border guards, Janos Forman, the head of the European Commission’s Delegation to Georgia, told the "Caucasian Knot".
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 2, by majority vote, the Members of European Parliament (MEPs) supported the visa-free regime for Georgia citizens in the EU. Then, the EU Council was supposed to approve the regime at the ministerial level.
Today, on February 27, the Council has approved the liberalization of the visa regime for the Georgian citizens coming to the EU for up to 90 days within each 180-day period. The respective document is posted on the EU website.
The document states that after the liberalization decision is signed by the EU Council and the European Parliament, the full text thereof will be published in the EU Official Journal and enter into force 20 days later.
