WADA finds use of doping by Russian Olympians in Sochi unproved

The data from Professor Richard McLaren’s report about the system of falsification of doping tests in Russia have no sufficient proofs, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has declared.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in July and December 2016, Mr McLaren presented two parts of his report about the system of large-scale falsification of doping tests in Russia, which was used inter alia at 2014 Winter Olympic Games. After the publication of the first part of the report, a recheck of the Russian Olympic team was launched, resulting in non-admission of many Russian athletes to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Today, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has stated that the WADA "had admitted that in many cases the evidence against Russian athletes is not enough to apply sanctions to them." Besides, translations of texts in the report have inaccuracies; therefore, they need a more detailed deciphering.

Despite this, the anti-doping personnel will monitor Russian athletes in the run-up to the 2018 Olympic Games more closely than other teams.

The WADA commissions are instructed to conduct a large-scale crosschecking of actual evidence contained in the McLaren's report. They have already begun re-checking the doping assays of 28 Sochi Olympians. Russians’ assays from the Games of 2008, 2010 and 2012 will also be re-investigated.
