Imam Velitov released from house arrest

Makhmud Velitov, the Imam of the "Yardyam" Moscow mosque, whose words about the murdered Dagestani cleric Gappaev were treated by investigators as justification of terrorism, was released today from his house arrest under the recognizance not to leave, said his advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Velitov was detained on July 11, 2016.

The decision to change his freedom restriction was initiated by investigators, said the advocate Khasavov.

According to his story, investigators have taken into account that Velitov lives in Moscow, had no previous convictions, and is a Category II invalid.

Earlier, the Moscow City Court (MCC) repeatedly upheld Velitov’s house arrest.
