Geriev’s defence states protraction of examining his application on kidnapping

The recheck of the application of Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, about his kidnapping and use of violence last for a month already instead of 10 days prescribed by the law, said the advocate Alaudi Musaev. Two cassation appeals against the verdict have been also filed by two other advocates involved in the trial.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 28, 2016, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya upheld the verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev, passed on September 5, 2016, by the Shali District Court, which sentenced him to three years in prison on charges of possessing marijuana.

Geriev’s advocates reported a resumption of law enforcers’ check of the Geriev’s application. According to Alaudi Musaev, the point is about the resolution to refuse to open a criminal case on the Geriev’s application about the kidnapping, planting drugs and exerting pressure with the aim to force him into self-incrimination.

On February 13, the defence intends to meet the investigator Tapaev, who has received the materials for a repeated pre-inquiry check.

On February 10, Taulan Ebzeev, an advocate of the KChR’s Bar Association, and Zhabrail Abubakarov, an advocate of the Chechen Bar Association "Status Quo", lodged two cassation complaints; they both take part in the trial.
