Court ignores lawsuit against construction in Makhachkala park

The Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala has failed to consider the lawsuit lodged by a group of citizens, opposing the construction of a museum in the Lenin Komsomol Park, having requested a copy of the land lease agreement for the museum, said Arsen Magomedov, one of the claimants.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a part of the Lenin Komsomol Park in Makhachkala was grantee into lease for erection of the museum "Russia – My History". An initiative group of Makhachkala residents stands against the construction in the park; and on January 29, they published a petition to the President of Russia asking him to stop the construction. The authors of the petition call not to admit cutting trees, and state the catastrophic shortage of green areas in Makhachkala.

According to Arsen Magomedov, the claimants also asked the court to ban cutting down of trees and the construction until the consideration of the lawsuit, as it "may complicate or make the enforcement of the judgement impossible."

Mr Magomedov has added that the claimants "intend to appeal against the judgement of the Sovietsky Court at the Supreme Court of Dagestan".
