"Nida" movement links Veliev's arrest with critical record in social networks

Today, Rakhim Veliev, an activist of the "Nida" youth movement was detained; his home was searched. In the evening, the court sentenced Veliev to a 15-day arrest. The young man told his relatives about it by phone, but could not explain the reason for his arrest.

Tonight, the "Nida" movement has made a statement, condemning Veliev's arrest, treating it as a result of political order. Members of the movement believe that his prosecution is associated with his critical remarks against the country's authorities. In particular, the statement quoted one of the recent Valiev's entries in the Facebook:

"These authorities have robbed the youth of everything they could – education, health, future, independence and other values. Not satisfied, for many years they continue kidnapping our friends; any of us may be the next," wrote the activist.

The statement of the "Nida" movement also contained an appeal to the Azerbaijani authorities: "By arresting people for their critical posts and opposition activities, you will achieve nothing."
