HRC "Memorial" reports on resumption of activities of Ingush Adaptation Commission

The activities of the Commission on adaptation of militants in Ingushetia have been resumed after a one-year break. This was reported by Oleg Orlov, a member of the Board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a 31-year-old resident of the Malgobek District has informed the law enforcement bodies about his activities for aiding and abetting militants and addressed the Commission on adaptation. At its meeting, it was decided to apply for commutation of his sentence.

In September 2011, Ingush leader Yunus-Bek Evkurov signed a decree on creation of a commission to assist in adaptation to civilian life those people who decided to stop their terrorist and extremist activities in the territory of the republic. Human rights defenders noted the success of the Ingush authorities in that direction.

According to Oleg Orlov, a member of the Board of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", he hopes that "very useful activities of the Commission on adaptation will also be continued in Ingushetia in the next year."

"For example, in Dagestan, when Ramazan Abdulatipov came to power, such a commission was eliminated or rather transformed into a new agency designed in theory to resolve a variety of conflicts. However, essentially nothing left from the earlier effective mechanism," emphasized the human rights defender.
