Raul Khajimba offered oppositionists high government posts

The President of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba has offered the oppositionists, who demanded his resignation, as a compromise, high government posts, including the posts of the Public Prosecutor General and Vice-Premier. He also agreed to limit his own powers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 15, in Sukhumi, in front of the building of the Abkhaz Government, the opposition held their "people's assembly", demanding the early resignation of the president; while, in parallel, a pro-government rally in support of Khajimba was held nearby. Raul Khajimba held talks with several oppositionists and said he would not resign.

His talks with leading oppositionists, held in the building of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Abkhazia, were over; and Khajimba and the opposition leader Aslan Bzhaniya came out to their supporters to discuss the outcomes of the meeting.

The President expressed his readiness to support the bill, according to which he would not be able to dismiss the Premier without a consent of the Parliament, the "Interfax" reports.

Also, the opposition was offered the posts of Vice-Premier and the General Public Prosecutor, two seats in the Constitutional Court, to nominate candidates to the new staff of the Central Election Commission (CEC), and posts for oppositionists at the level of deputy ministers and agency heads, "Sputnik-Abkhazia" writes with reference to Mr Bzhaniya.
