Two employees of Zugdidi Prison convicted for abusing inmates
The court has found Koba Antiya and Onis Lagvilava, employees of the prison in Zugdidi, guilty of beating and humiliating inmates and sentenced each of them to 3.5 years of imprisonment.
The Zugdidi District Court has found that in 2009-2012 Antiya and Lagvilava beat up, insulted, humiliated and blackmailed inmates of Prison No. 4 located in the city of Zugdidi (the region of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti).
Initially, Antiya and Lagvilava were sentenced under Article 144 of the Criminal Code of Georgia dealing with "degrading or inhuman treatment" to four years and eight months in prison, but under the Law "On Amnesty", the sentence was reduced to 3.5 years, said the General Prosecutor’s Office (GPO) of Georgia.
Besides, Koba Antiya and Onis Lagvilava were prohibited from holding any state posts for two years and three months after they have served their terms, the "News-Georgia" reports.
