Court finds Klykh guilty of insulting prosecutor

The Zavodskoy District Court of Grozny has sentenced Stanislav Klykh, a citizen of Ukraine, to 240 hours of compulsory work, replaced by a month of imprisonment, for insulting the public prosecutor.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 20 the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya ruled to open a criminal case against Klykh for insulting the public prosecutor during a court session. Stanislav Klykh refused to admit his guilt. Today, the prosecutor demanded 1.5-month imprisonment for Klykh.

On May 19, at the SC, a jury found Stanislav Klykh and Nikolai Karpyuk guilty of killings and attempted murders of Russian servicemen during first Chechen war. On May 26, the SC sentenced Karpyuk and Klykh to 22.5 and 20 years in prison, respectively.

Today, the chairing judge passed a guilty verdict for insulting the public prosecutor during the trial.

According to the SC, Klykh "had acted wilfully" and his guilt "is confirmed by testimonies of the victim and witnesses," as well as by other written testimonies, including the findings of the linguistic expertise, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the courtroom.
