Sentence to Azerbaijani activist Giyas Ibragimov challenged

The defence of activist Giyas Ibragimov requests to completely cancel his sentence on the charge of drug trafficking.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 25, Giyas Ibragimov, who criticized the Azerbaijani authorities on Facebook, was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment, even though the prosecutor asked to sentence him to a shorter term of imprisonment. Giyas Ibragimov is recognized by the "Amnesty International" as a "prisoner of conscience", and human rights defenders from the "Freedom House" spoke in his defence.

In May, Giyas Ibragimov was detained together with activist Bairam Mamedov after the appearance of graffiti: "Qul bayramınız mübarək!" (Congratulations on the slaves' holiday!) and "F ... k the system!" made on the pedestal of the monument to Geidar Aliev in Baku.

According to Elchin Sadygov, an advocate of Giyas Ibragimov, the defence insists that the verdict is illegal, since the evidence against Giyas Ibragimov was obtained under torture, there were no independent witnesses in the case, and the investigators' version contradicts common sense.
