Activists of Georgian NGOs call on voters to support opposition in second round

Voters are to give their voices for opposition candidates to majoritarian MPs to ensure that the "Georgian Dream" Party does not gain the majority in the Georgian Parliament and does not change the Constitution at its discretion. This was stated by Georgian NGOs.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Central Election Commission (CEC) scheduled the voting at the second round of the parliamentary elections of Georgia for October 30 and that the re-voting at four polling stations in Zugdidi and Marneuli is to take place on October 22.

It is very important to secure that in the current situation, the society is guided at the second round of the elections by the principle of the balance of political forces, emphasizes the appeal to eight opposition parties.

The appeal also notes that based on the results of the first round of elections, the "Georgian Dream" Party "gets the prospect of achieving a constitutional majority, and that can cause significant damage to the democratic processes."

The main purpose of the appeal released by activists of the civil society is to support the opposition "United National Movement" (UNM) Party, which was in power for nine years, stated Giya Volsky, the chairman of the faction of the "Georgian Dream".

According to Irakli Abesadze, a member of the "UNM" Party, the "Georgian Dream" has succeeded in the first round of the elections through manipulation, and a similar attempt will take place in the second round.
