Authorities treat explosion in Sukhumi as terror act

The explosion on the territory of the Abkhazian TV and Radio Company was an attempted terror act, said Aslan Kobakhiya, the head of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Abkhazia. According to the "Nuzhnaya Gazeta", policemen found photos of building located in central streets of Sukhumi on the person, killed by the explosion.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this morning a man, who had a bomb with striking elements, has blown himself up. Employees of the TV and Radio Company did not suffer. Law enforcers were put into the enhanced mode of service; and schools and kindergartens are now under special guard.

According to Minister Kobakhiya, authorities are urging people "to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons to the police." He also admitted that the organizers of the explosion wanted to "destabilize the situation in the country."

Mukhamed Kilba, the Secretary of the Security Council of Abkhazia, has added that the fact that the bomb was stuffed with striking elements indicates the intention of the perpetrator to use it against the people.
