Voter turnout at referendum in Azerbaijan made 69.7%

By 7:00 p.m. local time, at the referendum completed in Azerbaijan, a total of 3,671,707 voters had cast their ballots, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has stated. The results of exit-polls are just slightly different from the CEC's data.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Baku time, Azerbaijan held a vote at the referendum on amendments to the Constitution. By 12:00 a.m. Baku time, the voter turnout exceeded 25%, which made the referendum valid.

By 7:00 p.m., the voter turnout at the referendum in Azerbaijan reached 69.7 percent. This figure is presented by the website "Elections" of the CEC's Information Centre.

Tonight in Baku, at a press conference, Ali Akhmedov, the Executive Secretary of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan", has already stated that "the people have supported the amendments to the Constitution," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

In its turn, the Azerbaijani Research Centre named "Els" has published the outcomes of the exit-polls conducted at 400 polling stations.

According to Irada Yagubova, the head of the "Els", the turnout at the referendum was 65.1%. The issues brought to the referendum "found support from 86 to 90 percent of the voters," Ms Yagubova said.
