Investigation into Ayub Tuntuev's complaints about torture started

The criminal case on use of torture against Ayub Tuntuev, who worked in the security service of Akhmat Kadyrov and sentenced on the charge of involvement in a terror act, was instituted after the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) had sent a request to the Russian authorities in connection with the Ayub Tuntuev's complaints. This was reported by the "Legal Initiative".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in May, the "Legal Initiative" filed to the ECtHR a complaint stating that Ayub Tuntuev was subjected to torture in a penal colony in the Vladimir Region and that after that he made a confession about his involvement in the combat actions in Chechnya and Dagestan in 2000-2005 years.

Ayub Tuntuev worked in the security service of Chechen leader Akhmat Kadyrov. According to investigators, he was one of the organizers of the explosion of a car on July 19, 2005, which killed 14 people. Ayub Tuntuev was sentenced to 24 years of imprisonment.

On September 5, the "Russian Legal Initiative" reported that the investigating division of the city of Kovrov of the Vladimir Region instituted a criminal case on use of torture against Ayub Tuntuev.

However, members of the "Legal Initiative" expresses their doubts about the effectiveness of the investigation, since Ayub Tuntuev was subjected to medical examination only six months after the torture, and to the examination of the specific body injury only one year later.
