More than 7000 people march in honour of NKR's Independence Day

On September 1, the festivities began with open lessons in all educational institutions on the topic "25 years of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR)". The celebrations are to finish today, on September 3, by opening of a new residential district in the village of Agavno of the Kashatag District, reports the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was proclaimed on September 2, 1991. On January 6, 1992, the outcome of the referendum on Karabakh status showed that 99.89% voters cast their votes in favour of independence, and the NKR proclaimed itself an independent state. Azerbaijan did not recognize the NKR's independence and treats it as a part of its territory. The international status of the NKR has not been determined. UN member countries do not recognize the NKR as an independent state.

Officials from the Stepanakert Mayor's Office have announced that on September 1, the capital held sporting and cultural events in Renaissance Square, and in the evening, a concert of a military band has taken place in the central square of the city.

The main events took place on September 2.

"In the morning of September 2, more than 7000 residents of Stepanakert became involved in a march from Renaissance Square to the memorial complex to lay flowers and wreaths at graves of the victims of the Karabakh war. In the evening, central Renaissance Square hosted a gala concert engaging Armenian and Artsakh stars, which ended with fireworks," reported David Mikaelyan, a press officer of the Stepanakert Mayor's Office.
