The Russian FSB has completed the investigation into the criminal case against student Varvara Karaulova, accused of an attempt to join the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), banned in Russia by the court. This was reported by advocate Sergey Badamshin.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 28, 2015, a court in Moscow arrested Varvara Karaulova. She soon pleaded guilty. However, later she retracted her confession.

Varvara Karaulova, a student of the Moscow State University (MSU), was detained at the Turkish-Syrian border with a group of Russian citizens on June 4, 2015. According to investigators, the detainees planned to join the "Islamic State", banned in Russia and recognized as a terrorist organization. The case got wide response. Varvara Karaulova changed her name and became Alexandra Ivanova.

"The investigation into the case has been completed," the "TASS" quotes Sergey Badamshin, an advocate of Varvara Karaulova. He has also noted that the defence then should continue to study the case materials, and after that they will be submitted for approval to the Prosecutor's Office.

Sergey Badamshin claims that the investigating team presses the defence to study the case materials as quick as possible. However, according to a source, close to the FSB Investigating Department, it may take about a month to study all the volumes of the case, the "RBC" reports.
