Residents of Armenia demand from IOC gold medal for Arutyunyan

The petition to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in support of the wrestler Migran Arutyunyan has gathered 15,711 signatures. The authors of the petition believe that referees had deprived Arutyunyan of the Olympic gold medal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on August 16 the athlete from Armenia Migran Arutyunyan lost his final battle for the gold medal of the 2016 Olympics in Greco-Roman wrestling. The wrestler himself stated his disagreement with the referees’ decision.

The authors of the petition, posted on the “Change.org” website, have expressed their disagreement with the referees’ decision, which "deprived Arutyunyan of the Olympic gold medal in the final match against the Serbian athlete Davor Štefánek". "It's a shame for the Greco-Roman wrestling; the whole world saw, who the real champion was," the petition says.

The authors of the petition call on the IOC and the International Federation of Combined Wrestling Styles "to stand for justice."

Meanwhile, the Armenian Bookmaker Company "Vivaro" has recognized all bets made in favour of the Greco-Roman wrestler Migran Arutyunyan to be winners. The company treats Arutyunyan as "the real winner" and states that "several thousand clients will receive their winnings," the edition "Sputnik-Armenia" reports.
