In "Nardaran case", defendants complain to court about torture

In Baku, defendants Ali Nuriev, Agil Ismayilov, Rasim Djebrailov, and Zakir Mustafaev claimed being tortured after their detention. The court is to take into account the above complaints, believes human rights activist Muzaffar Bakhyshov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 26, 2015, in Nardaran, 14 people were detained, including Talekh Bagirzade, the leader of the movement "Muslim Unity". The detentions provoked riots, in which seven people were killed.

According to defendant Rasim Djebrailov, at the Chief Department for Combating Organized Crime (known as GUBOP) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), "detainees were tortured with electric current." Rasim Djebrailov has also noted that he has made a confession under torture, reports Mamedova, a legal observer of the newspaper "Azadlyg".

Rasim Djebrailov has also rejected the accusations that the defendants attempted to commit a coup.

Defendant Agil Ismayilov has called the content of the indictment the "lie and slander." According to him, he was beaten at the GUBOP by 5-6 men.

Ali Nuriev, another defendant, said that "during the special operation, seven rubber bullets hit him." He has also added that he was "beaten at the police station and got some of his teeth broken."

Muzaffar Bakhyshov, the leader of the Research Foundation "Legal State", believes that "the court is to investigate the complaints about torture filed by the defendants."
