Residents of Grozny report raids to collect debts for gas

In the Chechen capital, staff members of the utility services have resumed raids to collect debts. Consumers with major debts are deprived of gas supply.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in December 2015, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov stated that the debts for gas, water and electricity supply shall be paid in full until January 17, 2016. Only during 1.5 months, staff members of the utility service switched off the gas supply for more than 42,000 consumers with debts.

The raids were suspended in June after beginning of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, and they were resumed on July 25.

On June 8, Ramzan Kadyrov expressed his dissatisfaction with the mass deprivation of consumers of gas supply for the debts. The Chechen leader has demanded to resume gas supply to families with low incomes. Besides, the heads of the Urus-Martan and Gudermes Districts were dismissed.

An official from the "Gazprom Mezhregiongas Grozny" has explained that many consumers have debts for housing and communal services, despite the fact that they are able to repay their debts.

According to the official information, in Chechnya, the debts for gas amount up to about 13 billion roubles.
