Actions of Turkish coup's organizers threaten natives of Caucasus, political analysts believe

The attempt of the military coup in Turkey may result in the increased interaction between Istanbul and Moscow on issues of international security, and that fact may have a negative impact on the natives of Northern Caucasus, who live in Turkey. This opinion was expressed by Turkish political analysts.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 15, the Turkish government opponents from armed forces launched a coup attempt. As of today, 265 people were killed, and more than 1500 others were injured.

According to Salman Sever, a journalist and political analyst, an expert on regional security, "earlier, military coups in the country did not have any negative impacts on the North-Caucasian Diasporas in Turkey."

"In the event if the military men come to power, the situation will be unlikely changed much for certain groups of migrants from Northern Caucasus. The coup had already taken place in 1997. And then, natives of the self-proclaimed Republic of Ichkeria felt completely at ease in Turkey," Salman Sever said.

The political analyst has noted that "in case if the involvement of the Gülen's supporters in the coup is proven, then the Turkish authorities will try to 'clean up' their agents abroad."

"For Russia, the problem is still in residence of natives of the North- Caucasian republics in Turkey and their relationship with the processes taking place in Syria. It cannot be ruled out that Russia and Turkey will discuss the possibility to exchange the wanted Caucasian natives for the Gülen's supporters," the political analyst expresses his point of view.

"If Moscow offers to exclude the Gülen's supporters from the issues of the Russian-Turkish cooperation, then it may demand to extradite in exchange the wanted Caucasians or, at least, to subject them to administrative expulsion," concludes Salman Sever.
