Advocate Asabali Mustafaev claim being pressed after ECtHR's decisions

The Ministry of Taxes of Azerbaijan has filed a claim to ban Asabali Mustafaev from leaving the country. The lawyer associates the above with the decisions pronounced by the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in 18 cases, in 13 of which he was involved as an advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 30, the Strasbourg Court pronounced the decisions to grant 18 complaints in the cases of Azerbaijan. In particular, the ECtHR has confirmed the violation of the rights of the activists detained during the anti-parliamentary actions in 2012 and of the rights of the oppositionists not admitted to the elections in 2010. Asabali Mustafaev was involved in the above cases as an advocate.

On July 1, advocate Asabali Mustafaev was summoned to the Sumgait City Court. The reason for the advocate's summoning to the Court was the claim of the territorial department of the Ministry of Taxes to ban Asabali Mustafaev from leaving Azerbaijan.

He has explained that in 2015, investigators concluded that the NGO led by Asabali Mustafaev did not register two grants received by it. The Ministry of Taxes demands from Asabali Mustafaev to pay taxes in the amount of 8000 manats (about 5200 US dollars).

Asabali Mustafaev believes that the additional tax is unlawfully imposed in his situation.

According to the advocate, the consideration of the claim filed against him by the Ministry of Taxes is scheduled for July 8.
