Meeting of Vladimir Putin, Ilham Aliev, and Serzh Sargsyan bears no fruit, Baku political analysts assert

Following the results of the meeting in Saint Petersburg, no statements on agreement to promote the political settlement of the Karabakh conflict have been voiced. This opinion was expressed by the Azerbaijani political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot". They believe that the lack of progress in the political settlement of the Karabakh conflict increases the probability of resumption of the hostilities.

Let us remind you that on June 20, the Presidents of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan gathered for the meeting, devoted to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, following the results of the negotiations, the leaders of the three countries have adopted a tripartite declaration which reaffirms "the commitment to the normalization of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh," and also contains an agreement to increase the number of OSCE observers in the Karabakh conflict zone.

The meeting in Saint-Petersburg has failed to make a breakthrough, and in that sense, it does not much differ from the earlier negotiations in the same format. This was stated by political analyst Rasim Musabekov, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.

Rasim Musabekov has characterized the current truce as "fragile." "The limit of patience in Azerbaijan is running out. We cannot spend other 25 years for negotiations," notes Rasim Musabekov.

Uzeir Djafarov, the leader of the NGO "Military Journalists", has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he sees no positive results following the meeting in Saint Petersburg.

"Armenia does not want to withdraw its troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, and the country also tries to use such negotiations to gain time in order to get prepared and recover its position lost in early April. And Russia, being a mediator, does not put any pressure to Armenia to force the country to fulfil its obligations in compliance with the international law," Uzeir Djafarov believes.

According to him, the possibility of war will always be high, until the problem of the liberation of the occupied territory is not resolved.
