Workers of "Nairit" prepare appeal to court

Today, former workers of the Yerevan "Nairit" plant have held new protest action in front of the government building. They have reported the beginning of consultations with lawyers concerning the cancellation of the agreements with the top-managers of the plant on refusal to pay fines and penalties.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the protest actions held on June 8 and 9, the worker of the "Nairit" plant demanded to resume rubber production in Armenia.

Since 2011, the workers of the "Nairit" plant sought the repayment of wage arrears. On August 4, 2015, the debts were paid after the agreement with the top-managers had been signed. However, according to the plant workers, they were blackmailed to sign the agreement.

The protest action, according to the organizers, was attended by about 100 former workers of the chemical plant.

According to Karine Shakhverdyan, a dismissed employee of the chemical plant, the former employees of the plant doubt that the authorities will meet their demands to recognize the agreement on refusal to pay fines and penalties.

The woman also doubts that the judicial system of Armenia will satisfy the claims of the former plant workers.

"In the case of refusal, we intend to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). However, to do that, we need to go through all court instances in Armenia," Karine Shakhverdyan has emphasized.
