Cossacks come to rally with demand to return direct election of village head in Stavropol Territory

In the district centre of Alexandrovskoye, Terek Cossacks held a rally, at which they demanded to give them back their right to all-people's election of the head of the village. The protestors demanded to amend the charter of the village and to dismiss the Governor.

The rally was held because of the decision of the local deputies to appoint the head of the village following the conclusions of the qualification commission. To legalize the above decision, the Duma of the Alexandrovskoye village has introduced the necessary changes to the charter of the village. As a result, the head of the village council is to be not elected but appointed.

Meanwhile, 50 percent of members of the qualification commission shall be represented by employees of the district administration, and the chairman of the qualification commission shall be the head of the regional administration with full voting status, the edition "Bloknot. Stavropol" reported on June 4.

The protest action was attended by about 200 people.

After the speeches, the participants of the rally adopted a resolution, in which the Cossacks of the local unit of the Terek Cossack Army demanded to amend the charter of the village. Furthermore, they also decided to send a collective appeal to Vladimir Putin.
