Gold embroidery masters from Adygea state continued interest in their art

The young people’s interest in the art of gold embroidery, which is one of the traditional Adyg crafts, is not going down, say the teachers of this type of needlework. This art is taught at the Maikop State Humanities-Technical College (MSHTC) under the Adygea State University (ASU).

The training courses of Circassian ancient techniques of embroidery and weaving are regularly held at the MSHTC, Professor Fatima Shemgokhova, one of the teachers of gold embroidery art, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

She noted that in Adygea, the youth is still interested in gold embroidery; the republic has commercial organizations that collect artists throughout Europe and create costumes, decorated with gold embroidery.

The interest in gold embroidery originates from national traditions, said Faina Khadjemukova, a second-year student of the MSHTC, noting that she would use gold embroidery in the creation of her collection of the national costume.

Her classmate Nafiset Shevatsukova has added that after the college some students continue their training in the profession of designer, in particular, in Moscow.

She believes that the art of gold embroidery is so deep within the ethnic traditions that it can be treated as the most characteristic Adygs’ folk art.
