Azerbaijani Prosecutor's Office threatens oppositionist Tofiq Yagublu with prosecution

The General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan has issued an official warning to Tofiq Yagublu, Deputy Chairman of the opposition "Musavat" Party, in connection with his publications on Facebook and media interviews. Law enforcers have detected signs of incitement to hatred and hostility in the statements voiced by Tofiq Yagublu. The oppositionist does not agree with the warning.

Investigators have found out that starting from March 20, Tofiq Yagublu disseminated "in the social networks on the Internet the posts of defamatory nature with regard to the heads of central executive bodies", claims the report of the press service of the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office issued in the evening of April 15.

Moreover, according to the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office, in one of his interviews to the media, Tofiq Yagublu "provided the information distorting the reality and stating that the problem of political prisoners, allegedly existing in Azerbaijan, was supported by the ruling circles."

The Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office has detected in the Tofiq Yagublu's actions an attempt to "cast a shadow on the work of the law enforcement bodies to combat crime, implement penal policy and take measures to prevent religious hatred and enmity and activities in other areas."

On April 15, Tofiq Yagublu was summoned to the General Prosecutor's Office, where he had a conversation with prosecutors. The politician has stated that the media distort his statements, reports the press release of the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office.
