Power agents oblige residents of Chechnya to get permits for visiting forests
Residents of the Achkhoy-Martan District of Chechnya must get official permits for going to forest to gather wild garlic (ramson). Permits are issued "for security of residents themselves," officials said.
According to a source from the administration of the village of Samashki, permits are issued to locals by prescription of the local ROVD (District Interior Division) and "serve as a safeguard, confirming that they are in the forest on legal grounds."
Permits are signed personally by the head of the rural settlement.
Residents of the Achkhoy-Martan district, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, said that they treat the novelty of the ROVD with understanding.
Earlier, there were reports about incidents when gathering wild garlic. Thus, on February 15, 2015, relatives of two women from Chechnya, who went to the forest to collect wild garlic and did not return home, reported their disappearance to the republic's Ministry for Emergencies (MfE). The women were found by rescuers on February 16.
