In Volgograd, ecologists hold picket near "Caustic" Factory
In Volgograd, in the Krasnoarmeisk District of the city, where the "Caustic" Factory is located, activist have held an action calling to sign a petition to Vladimir Putin concerning the situation of air pollution in the city. According to ecologists, during two pickets, they managed to collect about 620 signatures.
On September 23-24, 2015, an inflammation in the territory of the "Caustic" Factory caused emission of smog that covered several districts of Volgograd. The plant's administration has admitted that there was an inflammation of chlorine-containing products.
On December 10, at the building of the regional Central Bank, ecological activists held an action dedicated to the problem of air pollution in Volgograd. Participants of the action collected signatures under petition to the Russian President. In their petition, they complained about "the inaction of public nature-oriented and supervisory authorities" in relation to the situation of air pollution by industrial enterprises in Volgograd.
Today, during three hours, ten people were again picketing against urban air pollution. This time, the picket was held near the market in 40th anniversary of VLKSM Street in the Krasnoarmeisk District of Volgograd. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Elena Vasilyeva, Director of the Information Centre "Volgograd-Express". The protest action was attended by members of ecological organizations and the Centre for Ecological Monitoring and by Dmitry Krylov, a City Duma deputy.
