Sochi residents complain of flooding because of poor surface-water drainage
In Sochi, the city commission for emergencies is not lifting the high alert regime introduced because of heavy rains and floods. In the evening on November 13, another mudslide went down to the section of the Khosta-Kudepsta Federal Highway. City residents complain about the precarious storm sewers.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 12 a storm warning was announced in Sochi. The day earlier, the downpours that hit Sochi led to strong flooding.
On November 13, a section of the Khosta-Kudepsta Federal Highway, located near the "Avtomobilist" boarding house, was covered by a mudflow. Streams of water mixed with mud and stones went directly onto the road.
The whole day, it was heavily raining in the city. Despite the fact that rivers' level did is not get beyond the limit markers, the roads and sidewalks in the low-lying pat of the city were knee-covered with water, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
Sochi residents note that badly built roads, poor gullies and construction sites inside urban areas continue provoking emergencies.
According to old-timers, new construction sites have completely ruined natural and man-made gullies. Now, storm water no longer runs to rivers and the sea, but spreads over streets, sidewalks and roads.
