In Baku, apartment of arrested journalist Abbasov's colleague searched

On September 18, in Baku, a search was carried out at the apartment rented by journalist Djavid Abdullaev. Meanwhile, law enforcers have declared that their actions were related to the case of journalist Shirin Abbasov, who on the day before had been subjected to 30 days of administrative arrest. Like Shirin Abbasov, Djavid Abdullaev cooperated with the "Meydan TV" online TV Channel.

Advocate Elchin Sadygov has described the circumstances of the search at the Djavid Abdullaev's apartment. "The mother of Djavid Abdullaev was at home. Several law enforcers carried out a search without presenting their IDs and search warrant and without invitation of witnesses and an advocate. The law enforcers said that the search was carried out in connection with the 'Shirin's case'. They have seized a desktop PC, three video cameras, and a laptop," the advocate has reported.

Elchin Sadygov called the incident "a gross violation of the law." "Why should they carry out a search because of a person who is subjected to administrative arrest for disobeying the police? Why do they seize the journalist's equipment? Why do they fail to invite an advocate and witnesses? Why do they fail to present a search warrant? And in general, the law does not stipulate a search because of an administrative offense," Elchin Sadygov has noted.
