"Mothers of Beslan" urge ECtHR to decide on terror act case

The punishment of those responsible for the deaths of hostages in the Beslan terror act should be a guarantee that such a tragedy will never happen again, believe the members of the committee "Mothers of Beslan". They expect the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) to decide on the complaint of the victims of the terror act within the coming six months.

On September 1, 2004, militants took 1128 hostages at Beslan School. The rescue operation ended on September 3, 2004. The storming killed 334 people, 186 of whom were children.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 2 the ECtHR found acceptable and took to consideration complaints lodged by most of the applicants-victims of the hostage-taking in Beslan in 2004.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that a press conference was held today by the "Mothers of Beslan" Committee in Beslan.

Despite the 11 years that elapsed from the terror acts, its victims have not yet managed to achieve a just punishment of all those responsible for hostages' deaths, said Susanna Dudieva, the head of the Committee.

It is crucially important that the ECtHR has recognized the true reasons of the complaint in the part of violation of the right to life, said Dudieva. According to her story, it directly touches on the issues of preventing the terror act and the indiscriminate use of weapons. The Russian authorities had enough information, but they did nothing to prevent the tragedy, the "Mothers of Beslan" Committee, which is now 10 years old, believes.
